"A refreshing, fresh and tasty refuge in a sea of ribs, pizza and fudge. Our meal was delicious, the service was excellent and the atmosphere very pleasant. Thanks— we had a great time!"— Mr. & Mrs. K, Coral Springs, Florida

ll of our food is freshly prepared here each day from our own recipes, many of which are available to the public in our 'Cheese Factory Restaurant Cookbook', available on-site or on-line. We prepare a broad variety of scrumptious food choices for just about every appetite – from home-made soups and salads to gourmet ethnic dishes to familiar favorites like onion rings and crispy French fries. We also offer our own bakery desserts and an old fashioned ice cream soda fountain which doubles as a real cappuccino bar.
Why we’re called the Cheese Factory Restaurant
O
ur building was operating as a cheese factory before we purchased it in 1992. It was a landmark in the Wisconsin Dells area for decades – hence our unusual name for a vegetarian restaurant: “The Cheese Factory Restaurant.” We purchased the building and renovated it with an eye to retaining its original unique character, which is evident by the knotty pine walls and huge, multi-paned windows. Surrounded at that time by empty fields and a golf course, we opened many years before Wisconsin Dells became famous in the mid-west for its indoor water parks.
O
ld-timers tell us stories about the building’s many uses over the years. It was apparently a casein production facility during WWII (casein is a milk by-product used in plastics), and there was even once a bowling alley in part of the building. To this day we still use the hand-made, knotty pine bowling ball storage racks at the top of our dining room stairway.
